There have been many times in my life when special, inspiring and seemingly miraculous events have occurred, when I have been brought to tears of gratitude for having the opportunity to witness such a heart opening moment. One such story involves a young boy named Mikey and his parents.

Mikey’s story is an amazing one of healing. I was 28 years of age and in my first year of chiropractic practice in my new office in west Houston, Texas, when a 34 year old gentleman called my assistant for an appointment and then later that day entered my office as a result of a work related lower back injury.

He was covered under the Texas Workers’ Compensation Insurance and he had injured himself by inappropriately lifting heavy equipment at his work and by twisting his low back.

Upon examination I discovered that his lumbar spinal vertebrae and a few of his lumbar discs were moderately injured and inflamed, and a number of related muscles were strained and spastic. A couple of his vertebrae had become displaced (subluxated) during the lift.

After taking a case history, examining his lumbar spine and pelvis, taking a series of lumbar spinal films and reviewi...

5.0 out of 5 starsThe Miracle Man does it again and again ..., September 21, 2009

I have known John Hinwood for many years and am honoured to call him a friend and a mentor. I have been in his presence to experience the Miracles he produces when he shares his 'other' business card. I have read the book from cover to cover and have been moved by the power of the miracles shared.

It is a book I am sharing with my 9 year old son as I believe the message is very appropriate for the youth of our planet who in their disillusion of what their forebears have done to the Planet can take hope that there can be Miracles and they will have a Planet to share with their children.

Well done John ... you truly are a Miracle Man

    By

Keith Livingstone "Thriving" (Bendigo, Victoria, Australia) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)

This review is from: You Can... Expect a Miracle! (Paperback)
As one of the contributors to Dr John's book, let me assure readers that his `Expect A Miracle' cards and "faith it till you make it" philosophy certainly helped me in my recent return from a "terminal, inoperable, but treatable" brain tumour. I have been a practice management client friend of John's for nearly 20 years now, and as a former athlete I have long been a big fan of "against the odds" and self-improvement literature. So I was literally "full of it" as far as being primed for survival. You name the book or the inspiring autobiography, I'd read it and absorbed it! I also had a few of John's Expect-a-Miracle cards on walls and doors around the place, and this basic message obviously embedded itself.

On the evening of July 28th 2007 I collapsed at my chiropractic clinic desk while writing an article. A huge "BANG!!" was all I can remember hearing, just like a shotgun went off in my head. I can remember everything I was doing up to the un-announced "BANG". I can vaguely recall something like a super-bright light shrinking immediately to a tiny white dot against a black background: imagine an old black and white TV screen that has the power cord ripped from the wall and you'll be able to picture what I'm describing, except that the pitch blackness had 3-D depth to it.

I then remember waking up on the floor, on the other side of my office, with paramedics attending me, and with my wife and our receptionist there as well. I had wet my trousers. My receptionist had heard a few sudden heel strikes then a big crash. She came in and saw my feet kicking wildly below the central chiropractic table, and thought I was playing a prank on her.

It transpired later that I'd suffered a big 'sub-arachnoid bleed': effectively a stroke over the surface of the brain, which showed up on the CT scan taken that night in the local hospital, along with the root cause of this pressure- an apricot-sized right frontal lobe tumour: (diagnosed on one occasion as a Grade III/III mixed anaplastic astrocytoma). This type of tumour is classed as 'benign' because it doesn't metastasize to or from other parts of the body, but nevertheless it often kills most people because it can keep on growing aggressively like a tomato in a confined space. My type was nasty because it had an accessible central mass with many inaccessible little projecting branches that went in all directions like plant roots. So to remove the whole tumour without wiping out large areas of brain matter would be impossible.

As the young neurology registrar, `Paul', did his post-surgical round, he stopped by my bed to see how I was functioning. With various tubes going into me and out of me, and 17 staples in my noggin, I easily passed muster on all his neurological tests. A pleasant, tall young guy with an amiable manner, he appeared to be observing me closely as he informed me that I'd had a craniotomy and a small biopsy of the central mass of the tumour had been done, but it appeared as if the tumour was "terminal, and inoperable, ...but treatable!"

His eyebrows did a little leap backwards when I retorted: "That's fine. We're all terminal in the end, aren't we? ".

I was pretty chirpy, but looking at the "realistic" view I was incapable of work, with a terminal prognosis (6-12 months' worth of gradual and inevitable decline), no current income, and my financial situation was a complete disaster. I had several properties around the state, all on large borrowings, and all with tenants who had chosen to stop paying rent, with several banking institutions threatening foreclosures left right and centre, and making grabs for my family home. Every time a phone went it was a financier, a solicitor, or a debt-collector. Wolves snarling at the door. I dreaded the sound of the phone. So I changed my ring-tone to "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Added to this I'd been zipped up completely by a niche financier for my clinic build who was in turn caught up in the credit crunch of the time. So I was about as down as I want to be in this life... but not out! You can always do something, can't you? Right from the start I deliberately placed an 'Expect-a-Miracle' card beside every light switch in the house, and on the bathroom mirror. I made it so that I couldn't escape unconsciously embedding this message many times a day.

My great allies in all of this were Dr John and his 'partner-in-possibility', Melbourne financial planning and insurance guru Dennis Jones. (Add to this the absolute rock of my life, my wife Joanne, and her magnificent parents!). It seemed every day we'd receive a card from John or his wife Judy or their staff, full of those little metallic "sprinkle" stars that clog up vacuum cleaners and carpets and get into the cracks in lounge furniture. One day a 38kg carton of books arrived on our doorstep. My daughter couldn't budge it. It contained 134 titles; the complete success library of the publishing company run by the late Charles 'Tremendous' Jones.

Roll forward a couple of years, and one more neurosurgery while awake after a relapse in 2008, and we've had miracle after miracle after miracle. So much interesting stuff that I should write a book about it! It's a beautiful autumn night here, and I have just come in from a run with my dog, and most days I'm out on the bike at some stage, hammering around a hilly road course. Other days, it all catches up eventually and I have to have a big nap, and I still need anti-seizure medication, but the expected demise has never come, and I feel very confident I'll probably outlive the tumour, "God willing".

We've had financial miracles that have enabled us to pay out all debts and start again with a fresh slate. Dennis Jones maintains that it was a 'miracle' that a small-print clause in my life insurance was honoured within weeks, without quibbles, by the insurance giant Zurich. I sent them a big "thank you" card with a picture of the family, and received a nice reply saying that it was a pleasure to help us, and that the card and picture were in their board room as a motif for what they were "there for".

Last year we took our whole family (5 children now) around the world for 14 weeks, seeing the great galleries and sights of Europe, UK, and the USA. A book I wrote on training for athletics ("Healthy Intelligent Training") was accepted for publication by Meyer and Meyer and is now in its second edition, with eight 5-star reviews on Amazon at last count. So... for all those nay-sayers and skeptics who say this sort of thing can't happen.... well... it DID! Buy the book and follow its cookie-cutter instructions without imposing your skeptical "rational" mind on the process, honor and thank your creator, whomever you assume that to be, and chase your dream!

5.0 out of 5 starsThe book for you!, August 18, 2009

    By

Maria DiDanieli "Canadian Winter" (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)

This wonderful volume, appropriately acknowledged as being authored by "John Hinwood and Friends" is a perfect example of people coming together to strengthen themselves, each other and those who would read their stories, by unabashedly sharing moments that have touched each of their lives. The use of a variety of voices - steered and peppered with Hinwood's own insights - makes this a collection of experiences that brings the possibility of miracles into tangible range for anyone.

Whether you've experienced miracles, or need to, or even if you would just like to understand, more clearly, what a miracle actually is, this is the book for you. Surprisingly, by the time you're done reading it, you'll want nothing more than to obtain a stack of "cards" - you'll have to read the book to know what this means - and hand them out, in the hopes of bringing something into the lives of others.

And, maybe, that motivation is where all miracles actually begin.

This book is truly life changing, after reading it I realized I was NOT expecting miracles and so I was not having them happen.

I began carrying the "Expect a Miracle" cards and focussing on that every time I saw either a challenge or an opportunity, within 6 months our business increased almost 10 times!!!!!!!!!!

The book I had written ("7 Secrets The Weight Loss Industry Will Never Tell You") has become a huge success here, truly a miracle for a first time author, far exceeding our initial expectations!!!.

Plus even better my relationship with my wife and children has improved so much, thank you John, I really can (and do) expect miracles every day now.

Did you know that you often wake up the next day in the frame of mind you went to bed with? That's why it is so important to have good thoughts, prayers, conversations, relations, etc. before ending your day in sleep. I like to read before sleeping, and I found this book to be wonderful bedtime reading. It leaves me at the end of the day, with feelings of hope, inspiration, warmth, and renewal, and I can't think of a better way to end my day - and so also begin another. I highly recommend this book for yourself or for someone you love. I also have starting thinking with an "Expect A Miracle," mindset, and it works! Thank you John for a great work of inspiration and hope in a time where we can all use it.

It is a small book with a big impact not only about hope & humanity, but it shows that no matter where we are, or where we come from, life is a miracle. Life is what we make of it. Sometimes it takes bite size pieces to show us the way, others times things happen out of total surprise. I believe in "You can ... Expect a Miracle", no matter how big or small. This book reminds us all that it is important to keep believing, in others and ourselves. Congratulations John you do live a life of miracles.

"Expect a Miracle" is a easy read. Somewhat like the Chicken Soup books, each story builds you up, lifts your soul and you just want more and more. The stories are well written many with a gentle humour and short enough that you can easily fit in another one before you put it down. All too soon, the book is finished, and .... well I'm going out to get my "expect a miracle" cards printed so that I too can experience the hope and expectation that these little cards produce.
Thank you Dr. John on occasion we get lost in this tired old world and forget that miracles do happen. We need to be reminded of the good stuff, and that's what this book does.

What was coined a miracle 100 years ago is frequently an everyday occurrence today due to technology. Our minds and imagination bring us more joy than technology. Your conscious thought will allow you to drive your future. Advance your brain to receive miracles. Read about them, ask about them find people that have experienced them. I see miracles everyday (big and small) since reading Expect a Miracle. Buy this book!

So many people run around looking for miracles when they don't realize that they are the miracle. Waking up each day is that start of that miracle. Going to bed knowing you have contributed to the good of man/woman kind is a great feeling. This wonderful book that Dr. Hinwood has authored inspires the reader to feel just this way. Every time you feel life is passing you by just pick up "Expect a Miracle" and read anywhere the pages open. You will find something to inspire you right there. It is small enough to carry everywhere and of such great value that you can give it to everyone you respect and want to help. I am very impressed with the positive stories about their lives and wonderful example that the Hinwoods are to the world. I look forward to more great collections of these stories.

"You Can... Expect A Miracle!" may be a small book, but it packs a huge punch. Every story in the book is an example of how the way we think determines the outcome of our lives.

The contribution from Gilles Lamarche about his son in "the Power that made the body heals the body" had a profound effect on my thinking when I first read it, bringing the realisation the we place so many limits on what might happen, merely by our ingrained beliefs and patterns of thought.

I recommend this this very readable book to anyone; let the message of hope, encouragement and inspiration become part of your life, too.

In "You Can... Expect a Miracle," Dr. John Hinwood creates and compiles for the reader, an empowering, enlightening and heartfelt journey into the lives of seemingly ordinary people, who remind us of how extraordinary we all are. He awakens the reader to the reality that the reputed mundane is replete with profundity. By re-contextualizing the the concept of miracles, he allows the reader to realize for themselves that how we perceive life and the miraculous can dramatically impact our lives in such a way that enables us to see all experiences and aspects of life as keys to creating a new paradigm for humanity, one in which miracles become our norm. Thank you Dr. John Hinwood for reminding us of the sanctity of all experiential wisdom.0 Every moment of our lives is an opportunity to alchemize and create treasure troves of experience.

What makes this book so great is that all the people that wrote of their experiences are co-creators of this book. While Dr John Hinwood created the idea and contributes with a number of stories, it is the varied experiences shared by all the contributors that makes this book so inspiring.

The book is broken up into themes ranging from Miracles of Attitude to Miracles of Family, to Miracles of Health. Most of the stories have inspiring quotes at the end ranging from people such as Benjamin Franklin to Arthur Ashe to Leonardo Da Vinci.

Some the stories are humorous such as"The Fickle Finger of Fate" by Dr John Hinwood, about his experience with an immigration office at LAX. Others are deadly serious such as "Space Invaders" by Dr Keith Livingstone, about his battle with a brain tumor. In fact, this I found most inspiring.

The theme that comes through and through is that Miracles are Normal and occur all around us if we take the time to look for them and appreciate them.

I have so enjoyed all of the stories of miracle workers!!! Especially the stories from Gilles Lamarche about "the Power that made the body heals the body", the Mad dogs and Cowboys from John Demartini that "no one can take away one's love or wisdom and not to judge a book by the cover", the "power the belief of a parent brings to a lifetime" from Ely Lazar, always seeing the "silver lining" in any situation delivered to us by Scott Schilling, and the wonderful messages John & Judy Hinwood bring to all of us with their countless stories about miracles. Especially John Hinwood's story about those who have been butchered by an inappropriate health care practitioner (doctor or therapist of any sort!), with his message that there are still many wonderful, caring, real and true helpers of society out there! You Can... Expect a Miracle!

We are so often shaped by the people we meet and the books we read. Sometimes we meet the people via their books. In the decades I have known Drs John and Judy Hinwood, they have always lived selflessly (sometimes to their cost). When faced with adversity themselves or in others, their relentless generosity of spirit shines through, and now this little tome of encouragement and inspiration will carry their message to so many who don't get to meet them face to face, but will benefit from getting to know them and the miracles message.

Expect A Miracle is a "quick read", but a very enjoyable one. The book consists of many short (mostly two or three pages) descriptions of uplifting encounters experienced by the author (Dr. John Hinwood) and many of his friends.

This is a more than slightly biased review as I am the wife of one of the contributors and have known the author for years! This is an "easy read" before bed, and the stories are all true. In a nutshell- Dr John's principle of concentrating only on ultimate expectation has helped me and my husband through an extremely difficult year where he has thrived/survived a "terminal" brain tumour and 2 neuro-surgeries while writing and publishing his own book on training for middle distance. In this time we have gone from being financially crippled, helpless and hopeless at the time of collapse to now being financially independent and comfortably well off, with Keith's book being released next month on Amazon (Healthy Intelligent Training). This financial miracle required Keith to be written off for life insurance purposes, but hey, he's still here and kicking and expecting to continue, God willing. We just did as the book said and plastered John's unique "Expect a Miracle" cards (they're in the book) everywhere around the house, and bothered God an awful lot! (We're supposed to you know!). An easy read, and like anything, if you JUST DO IT your life might change forever!

His passion and presence is empowering…

“I have had the pleasure of John’s friendship for 25 years.
As a senior financial adviser, I’ve been fortunate enough to attend numerous conferences in Australia, Asia, Europe and the U.S.
John must be one of the most engaging and entertaining public speakers I have ever enjoyed.
His passion for humanity, health and wellbeing and for making a positive difference is legendary.

John is not afraid to tell the truth but can do so with style and substance.
Dr. John’s message is desperately needed in the corporate world and I would not hesitate to recommend John as a wonderful public speaker.”

A gifted speaker who conveys a clear and direct message with truth, humour and compassion...

“Compelling, frank, honest, funny, moving. I first heard Dr John Hinwood speak at a fundraising event at the Tattersall’s Club in Brisbane Australia in 2001. The charity was a World Vision associated group, ‘Wells In Africa’.

On that evening he was a combination of MC, speaker and auctioneer. Like everyone in the room I was impressed by his mastery of seamlessly moving between managing the attendees, evoking emotional response by his description of the needs of the charity, and the high energy and fun auctioneering style.

He successfully unlocked a lot of cash on the night from some people who in my experience have a history of not being overly generous or charitable.
We all left the evening feeling entertained and feeling good about ourselves. I’m not sure exactly how Dr Hinwood wove that in, but I know that several of us talked in the weeks following about how inspired and motivated we were.

Subsequently I’ve heard Dr Hinwood speak on several occasions; he’s a gifted speaker who conveys a clear and direct message with truth, humour and compassion. This is a powerful and potent combination – I’ve personally benefitted greatly from his no-holds barred presentations and commend him to any organisation looking to move people into massive action.”

    A giant amongst men…

“It is my pleasure to provide this endorsement for Dr John Hinwood in all manner of ways.
I have known John for almost twenty years and in that time we have worked together,
presented together, socialized together and at various time been clients of each other’s
    businesses.

One thing that is immediately obvious about John is that his passion for what he does is as
enormous as the ‘bear hug’ with which he greets all acquaintances, both new and old. His
passion for being exemplary is undeniable.

I have attended his presentations and have seen him motivate people to rise out of their seats
and follow his lead. In a world full of dubious professional speakers with limited knowledge
and average delivery skills, John is a giant amongst men.

His knowledge of his chosen profession, Chiropractic, and all of its extensions into physical
and mental wellness including his latest venture into the world of ‘You Can Expect a
    Miracle’, is without question.

Despite John’s enormous knowledge base, evident in his writings and recordings, he is a
keen student of all things both physical and metaphysical and he continues to build on his
knowledge base. This thirst for knowledge and growth makes him a presenter that one can
listen to over and over as he shares his growing knowledge with all those fortunate enough
to have the opportunity to be in his presence”.

His principles through stories empower audiences...

"I have had the privilege and pleasure of knowing Dr John Hinwood for over 20 years.
Dr Hinwood is a leader who has communicated articulately and successfully with many groups from politicians to lay audiences. I have heard him address audiences of many thousands.

John has a rare gift of being able to communicate ideas and principles through stories and to empower audiences. It has often been said by participants that they felt he was “speaking directly to them individually”.

The status of Dr Hinwood in the chiropractic profession is legendary. His selfless fundraising efforts through the Australian Spinal Research Foundation as former President and lead donor are unparalleled.

Dr Hinwood has been an invited international guest lecturer at the College, and a speaker at Lyceum – our largest annual event. He is on the programme again this year as a keynote.
I would endorse Dr Hinwood as a professional speaker."

"So you are looking for a fabulous speaker for your event, one who comes with integrity, passion, humour and a vision for life?

Look no further. Dr John Hinwood will leave your audience inspired and ready to tackle life with everything it has to offer. Your attendees will embrace his style of delivery and the depth of his message as our audiences have over the last few years. John has spoken for Parker Seminars on numerous occasions in a number of cities around the United States, the most recent being January 2009 at the Las Vegas Hilton where more than 4,000 were in attendance. He is a man on a mission to change the way people view life, where miracles are seen as part of life, rather than something that just happens to others.

    Professionalism, passion and commitment...

"Dr John Hinwood has spoken at the Dynamic Growth Congress every year since its inception in 1988. The Congress is the major gathering of chiropractors in Australia each year, and a significant fundraising event for the Australian Spinal Research Foundation.

Local and international leaders in the profession present at the Congress on topics ranging from personal growth and transformation, to clinical practice. They do this voluntarily, for the benefit of chiropractic research.

Over the past 23 years, John has been asked to present many different themes to varied audiences. He has always done so with great professionalism, passion and commitment to the cause. John is indeed a giant in the chiropractic profession, and his speaking abilities match his standing.

I just have to tell you…

"Having now seen you deliver your “Expect a Miracle” presentation on a number of occasions I felt compelled to write to let you know the huge impact you are having on the audiences you address.

I am amazed by the level of excitement and enthusiasm that your message generates and, particularly in these days of pessimism, I see how many people leave with renewed hope and optimism.

It’s due entirely to the wealth of universally appealing information you share in such an interesting and engaging way and the delightful stories which underline and support your message.

Having been on the speaking circuit for over 20 years now, I reckon that I know the difference between an outstanding speaker and an ‘also ran’ one. You are certainly in the outstanding category …I can’t begin to think of the number of lives you must be influencing.

Congratulations John! I’d have no reservations about recommending you as a speak to any group where a message of hope and inspiration is required … and where people can walk away with something tangible and actionable."

"John and Judy Hinwood have always been an inspiration. As a legal adviser to John’s companies, and many of his clients, I have been in contact with John in many situations over more than two decades.

The Expect A Miracle Program is simply an extension of John’s life and outlook, and an evolution of many years of viewing the world from a unique perspective.

I have spoken on the same bill as John several times for the benefit of his clients in the chiropractic profession.

There is much more than a life and vitality to John. There is a positive force that makes you look upwards. You can’t help but smile when being with John, and his outlook on life is contagious.

There is no alternative but to get the best out of people and situations.

John is now bringing this to a wider audience to Expect A Miracle.

I have read the book (in fact it sits at the corner of my desk now permanently) and it provides a regular refocus mechanism for problem solving and planning.

Your book will have a positive impact in both business and personal situations...

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for the book. It has been 10 years since I have had the time to read a book that wasn’t about tax or accounting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to congratulate you on such an achievement. I can’t explain the feelings and emotions I had but it was all positive.

After reading the book – which I did in one night as I couldn’t put it down, I placed it on the coffee table in our office reception. The book lasted there for one week before a client asked if they could take it away and read it.

They were waiting for a couple of minutes in reception before their appointment and in that time read some excerpts form the book. It was so entrenching they wanted to read more. It was wonderful that the message in the book was so supportive for them and it is the first time in 20 years that a client has ever asked me to borrow a book from our reception room selection.

Our industry can become extremely stressful at times but by keeping an ‘Expect a Miracle’ card on my desk I have the opportunity to stop, take a deep breath, read the card and continue to move forward with a positive attitude. It can make all the difference in the world when trying to deal with stressful situations. Your book is not only inspirational but great support when you’re not feeling on top of the world.

As an accountant running a busy practice I feel the book would be a wonderful edition to the reception area of any accounting practice.

I believe your book will have a positive impact in both business and personal situations and I hope to come across many more ‘Expect a Miracle’ cards in the future. Thank you again for all of your stories."
